What You Need To Know About At-Home Allergy Shots

At-Home Allergy Shots are Convenient and Cost-Effective

Having the flexibility to receive your allergy injections at home provides a convenient alternative that saves you both time and money. Not only do you not have to come into the office weekly for your appointment, we also mail your allergy serum directly to your home. We ask that you follow up with your provider every three months so we can closely monitor your treatment progress. These appointments can be conveniently done by Telemedicine or in our office.

Your care provider will evaluate your medical history to confirm you meet the criteria we have set for your safety and to ensure you that the provider recommends moving forward with home immunotherapy.

Who Should NOT Receive At-Home Allergy Shots

A few scenarios that would disqualify you would be: Asthma, Lung disease, taking a beta-blocker, age limitations, other health conditions, and certain insurance companies that do not cover this service. Please inform our office if your doctor prescribes a beta-blocker medication to you after starting home immunotherapy – these medications are usually prescribed for heart conditions, high blood pressure or migraines (many names but some examples include propranolol, sotalol, nadolol, etc.)

How Do I Get Started with At-Home Shots?

If you are approved for home immunotherapy, you will be trained in our office to self-administer or we will train a friend/family member to administer to you. The educational appointment and training on injection self-administration will include a safety education, a complete understanding of the risks of reactions and how to treat them if occured. You will be required to have an epinephrine auto injector for your safety. Allergy injections have a very low risk for severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis). In the event this does happen, we will have prescribed an epinephrine auto injector (EpiPen, Auvi-Q).

Once you are trained and start home injections, you simply reorder your serum through our website and we mail it directly to you. It’s that simple.

Home immunotherapy will provide you a convenient and cost-effective way to remain compliant and also rewarding to be treated in the privacy of your home. If you are interested in at-home allergy injections or other immunotherapy options, simply make an appointment here or call today at 502-995-5525.
