Dr. Hodge is truly a loyal Louisville native. To begin with, he credits his parents, Dr. Kenneth and Mrs. Yvonne Hodge, for their great guidance as he worked his way through “some of the finest public school opportunities in the country at the time. Dr. Hodge participated and enjoyed early success in academically advanced programs at St. Matthews Elementary and Waggener High School. Later, the fact that he was from a large family would mean that he would have to turn down scholarships from Harvard and MIT. But his hometown once again provided him with a rich academic opportunity as he enrolled in the Speed Scientific School at the University of Louisville (U of L) in 1975. With advanced placement credits and an intensified curriculum, Dr. Hodge was able to begin medical school at U of L a mere two years later and, upon completion of his studies, stayed on to join one of the most highly regarded general surgery programs in the country.

While Dr. Hodge was already keenly aware of his deep interest in head and neck anatomy, he became truly inspired by the new, charismatic faculty in otolaryngology. Consequently, he shifted his training to focus on ENT. During his training, Dr. Hodge recognized the need for a highly specialized review of basic sciences within the ENT field and developed the curriculum for a month-long study program that played a key role in helping the department become the 3rd highest scoring group in the United States on national exams. He subsequently received his board certification.

Dr. Hodge went on to accept a fellowship at the world-renowned cancer center, M. D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute in Houston, TX. He declined both a highly coveted professorship in Houston and the offer to become Chairman of the new ENT program being launched at the University of Kentucky (UK) to return home to Louisville, the city he loves.

Dr. Hodge’s choice to develop his private practice in Louisville has allowed him to treat the full range of ENT problems. He has been able to build personal relationships with his patients and see the positive effects of the important work of bringing relief to both children and adults.

For his dedication and service, he has received wide recognition. He was accepted into the American College of Surgeons and has been named a Louisville magazine’s “Top Doc” in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2021. He was included on the inaugural list of Best Endoscopic Sinus Surgeons in 2010. While proud of these acknowledgments, Dr. Hodge continues to realize the importance of focusing on providing personalized care, one patient at a time.

Our Customer Testimonials:

“I have seen Dr. Hodge for almost 24 years now. When I was 19, I received a diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma found on/in my tongue. No one could believe the diagnosis. Luckily surgery was successful at removing the area and I didn’t have to have chemo or radiation. Since then, I have had 5 tongue surgeries in total. Each time a spot is found, surgery is done but no cancer since the initial time. Dr. Hodge has always had the best bedside manner. He is patient, compassionate and down-to-earth. I would highly recommend Dr. Hodge and his team.”

“Thank you for your wonderful care during the past many years! I’d recommend you to anyone with no reservations.”
